Thousands of Yache indigenes and supporters from far and wide thronged upon themselves to receive their illustrious son and Senator, Distinguished Senator Stephen Odey Ph.D. as he concludes his ‘Thank You’ tour in Yache, his political ward.
The event was held at St. Francis Primary School, Alifokpa, Yache.
Senator Odey, the Senator representing the good people of Cross River North could not conceal his profound joy as the people rose to welcome him with singing, dancing, shouting, and waving of hands joyfully. It was indeed a homecoming as the people’s Senator came home to celebrate his famous victory and not to campaign for votes.
In his opening remarks, Chief Mohie Ododo, the Chairman of Yache Traditional Rulers’ Council welcomed the Senator and his retinue to Yache Nation. He noted: “the Lord has done it for Yache.
We are happy that our son, amidst fierce battle from the opposition camp, emerged victorious and triumphant .” He thanked everyone who supported the Rescue Mission mandate and especially singled out Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Chief Tony Undiandeye, and Ntufam Peter Abang Ojie, Ph.D.
Goodwill messages were presented by dignitaries from within and outside Yache land; among whom were Rt. Hon. Regina Anyogo, (Member Representing Yala 1 Constituency), Barr. Fabian Ogbeche, ( Chairman of Yala Council), Chief Tony Inigo, Chief OC Bravo, Chief Tony Undiandeye, and Mr. Monday Odo, among others.
They were all full of praises for the people’s Senator and were grateful to God for the serial victory won. They additionally rained encomium on Senator Odey for his doggedness and resilience as he outwitted his opponent with smart moves that left them dazed.
Finally, the people’s Senator was ushered to the microphone amidst cheers and ululation from the over joyous crowd. In his speech, he dedicated his victory to God and thank the people for their unrelenting support for him and the People’s mandate.
He in addition gave a graphical illustration of how God outwitted and frustrated all his oppositions in their wicked devices and serial crafty moves.
He assured the people that the mandate they freely gave to him is intact, as he promised to deliver on the dividends of democracy across party lines.
In his characteristic manner, the Senator reechoed his resolve to forgive his political opponents and invited them to join hands with him and take Cross River North to the next level.
High points of the event were the performance of different cultural dancers including the well-known ‘Queen Dance’ and the presentation of a car gift to Mr. Julius Igbadu, Yache PDP Ward Chairman.
One of his supporter said “It was indeed a very pleasant moment to receive our illustrous Son and Distinguish Senator. The mammoth crowds could not hide their excitement for the triumphant home coming of their son and other dignitaries who graced the event to honour Senator Dr Steve Odey.”
