Bonta/Ukpute Communal Crisis, Victims Need Relief Intervention

The leadership of Igede Youth Council has called on the Benue State Emergency Management Agency to extend its planned relief Intervention for the victims of the unfortunate Bonta/Ukpute communal crisis to the people of Ukpute in Oju LGA.

In a protest, a letter addressed to the management of the agency and made available to newsmen yesterday in Makurdi.

Igede Youth Council President, Comrade Andyson Iji Egbodo thanked the Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom for his fatherly magnanimity to step into alleviating the pains caused by the crisis in Bonta but wondered why the same gesture is not extended to the people of Upkute who also suffered severe losses in the same crisis.

The youth leader who was at the agency’s head office in Makurdi in the company of other IYC national exco members for the protest stressed that Bonta and Ukpute people have been age-long neighbors and will continue to live together for more years to come.

Comrade Andyson Iji cautioned all trouble makers in that axis to desist from popping up issues with divisive tendencies to give lasting peace a chance between the warring communities.

The youth leader assured the Benue State Government of their unflinching readiness to continue to partner with the authorities in re-establishing brotherly love amongst different tribes in Benue State pointing out that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of rancor.

Responding, the agency promised to look into the demands of Igede Youth favourably.
